The separation of GPA into Ranking and Cumulative was intended to benefit the college admissions prospects for students outside of the top 10% of their class by encouraging colleges and universities to take a holistic approach when considering students for admission.One of the reasons for the policy change was to encourage students to pursue courses of interest regardless of GPA weighting, including Fine Arts and CTE electives.Only students in the top 10% of their graduating class receive a class rank during their senior year. Under this revised policy, a specific set of courses in core content areas are included in the Ranking GPA calculation, with other courses calculated as a part of Cumulative GPA. The graduating class of 2023 is the first class to have separate cumulative GPA and ranking GPA calculated under the revision of Policy EIC (Local).
